Four Free Ways to Drum Up New Business

Whether you’re new to the insurance industry or just need ideas to get your long-running business out of a slow period, here are a few free ways to drum up new business that you may not have tried before.

Set up your Google My Business profile.

Google My Business isn’t necessarily restricted to retail locations. You can put your business on the map and take advantage of local search—which is beneficial to all types of businesses, including insurance agencies.

Ideally, your Google My Business profile should include your address, full contact information, operating hours, photos, and reviews. You can also link to your other social media profiles.

Google My Business enhances your local SEO profile and helps people find you when they’re searching for insurance services in their area—so just filling out this profile can have a direct positive effect on bringing in new leads.

Form local partnerships.

How closely do you work with other businesses in your area? Insurance agents are especially well positioned to form local partnerships and referral networks that can lead to new business.

These don’t have to be formal. They can be as simple as a lead-exchange network, or you can refer clients to each other for services they need. You can form partnerships with other insurance agents who sell different types of insurance as well as with other business owners whose clients are likely to need the type of insurance you sell.

Sell to the customers you already have.

It’s far easier to get someone to do business with you if they already have, or are currently doing so. Your current client base is perhaps the most ready-to-buy of any marketing segment.

One way you can continuously sell to your existing customers is by scheduling regular policy reviews. Many insurance agencies don’t do this, even though policies and needs change over time. Your customers will appreciate the chance to review their coverage, discuss whether that coverage still meets their needs—and, of course, find opportunities to save money.

During these conversations, you’ll have opportunities to suggest other types of coverage they may need—and bring new business your way.

Build your in-person connections.

Social media can be a great way to drum up new business—but don’t neglect in-person connections. Connecting with others who buy the kind of insurance you sell can be just as useful, perhaps even more so, in bringing business and opportunities your way.

Consider joining in-person meetups, networking groups in your area, your local Small Business Association, or even charitable organizations in your town. Sponsoring or volunteering at local charitable events can be a great way to build connections in your community.

If you’re experiencing a business slowdown, there are plenty of ways to reverse direction. Try some of these tactics, and hopefully you’ll have a robust stream of new qualified leads in no time.
